Tozando has received the work of Tadahiro, the son of the renowned first Tadayoshi.
Tadahiro is considered to be the most famous of Hizen's swordsmiths. The blade is in excellent condition with no flaws. In fact, it is in such excellent condition that it is hard to believe it was made in the 1600s.
The jigane features the konuka-hada characteristic of Hizen katana, and the jinie and chikei are also visible. The hamon is a refined suguha with a deep nioi and sunagashi. The nakago is engraved with "Hizen-koku Ju Fujiwara Tadahiro."
Tadahiro was the son of the founder of Hizen katana, Tadayoshi. His father passed away when he was 19, making him the second head of the family at a young age. At 28, he received the title Omi Daijo and continued making Hizen-style Japanese swords until he was 80. He is therefore considered the most outstanding swordsmith among Hizen katana.
In August 2005, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords certified this work as an authentic Tadahiro piece and issued a Tokubetsu Hozon certificate, designating the katana as worthy of preservation for future generations.
The koshirae includes a shirasaya and a tenso-style uchigatana. The white silk tsukaito is wrapped in tsumami-maki and pairs perfectly with the black ishime-lacquered scabbard. The metalwork is exquisitely crafted, befitting a Tadahiro piece.
