Katana - Shigetsugu - NBTHK Hozon Certificate - Uchigatana/Shirasaya Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Nagano 97878

This katana is a very well-preserved piece with virtually no flaws or other defects, and the name Shigetsugu is engraved on the nakago. There is an 8mm wide age-related cloudiness at the munekado point about 25cm from the cutting edge of the sashiomote. The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has deemed this katana worthy of preservation for posterity and issued a certificate of authenticity as a work of Shigetsugu of Tosa.

The itame hada is applied with suguha hamon and you can enjoy nie such as ko-gunome and choji, and you can see various hataraki in the ha. The boshi is straight in and returned to omaru. The sword is well-balanced when held in the hand, and is a wonderful example of the spirit of the samurai of the Edo period.

Koshirae comes with both uchigatana and shirasaya. The contrast between the white silk handle thread and the black ro-nuri on the sageo cord is very beautiful. This Tensho style tsuka-gashira is made of buffalo horn. The fuchigane and menuki are decorated with a dragon pattern. The name "Nobuye" is engraved on the warrior-style tsuba.

The price is very reasonable considering the quality and condition of preservation. Please acquire this piece quickly as it could become a family heirloom.
