Katana - Masayuki - Uchigatana Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Gendai Era

Katana - Masayuki - Uchigatana Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Gendai Era

This sword was made in 1982 by Arai Ikkansai Masayuki. His real name was Koichi Arai, born in 1908 and lived in Iwatsuki City, Saitama Prefecture. He was a disciple of Sakai Shigemasa, a Mukansa swordsmith, and his work was known as a gem, winning an Honorable Mention at the New Meito Exhibition in 1977. This sword was not made as an iai sword, but as an art appreciation sword, and the workmanship is excellent. It is recommended as a sword for Batto and Iai as there is no groove and the blade it thick enough.

The sword is in good condition without flaws. Itamehada is well packed. The front side of the blade features hamon of middare with gunome mixed in while the back side has gunome choji with long Ashi in some places.  Chu-kissaki tip features Boshi which turns back to nakamaru.

Tsuka is wrapped with brown leather and has lion motif on Menuki. Fuchi kashira is made of copper and has a plum branch theme. The iron tsuba is decorated with samurai battle scenes, creating a more dignified atmosphere.

While it is intended for use as a sword for sword drawing and iai, this is the perfect sword to display for appreciation when not in use.
