Size-wise, it is more of an Otanto than a Wakizashi. The preservation of the blade is relatively good, but the blade has some minor rust and shallow scratches in several places. The hada is itame, with very dynamic hataraki such as chikei and yubashiri. Hamon is a well-tightened nie thin notare and very elegant.
The entire sword blade is a spectacular shobu-zukuri structure that resembles the shape of an iris leaf. The nakago is engraved with an inscription meaning āthe work of Nobukuni Yoshikane, a resident of the Fukuoka region in the country of Chikuzen.
In the Shinto period, the Nobukuni school, founded by Nobukuni Yoshisada, migrated from Buzen Province to Chikuzen Province, where they prospered greatly and produced many excellent swordsmiths. Yoshikane was one of them. He was the son of Yoshitsugu, whose real name is said to be Sukezaemon.
The koshirae uses metal fittings, tsukaito, and sheaths from the period, a pattern typical of the Shinto period. Unfortunately, the kozuka is missing, but it is in very good condition.
