Katana - Mumei(No Sigunature) - Uchigatana Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Gifu 087131

Katana - Mumei(No Sigunature) - Uchigatana Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Gifu 087131

This unsigned sword is very well preserved and is a very beautiful piece with the entire scabbard wrapped in sharkskin.

The sword is estimated to have been made in the Shinto period, but it is very well preserved, with no flaws, dents, or chips in the blade, and the only defects are a few light cloudiness on the ridge of the blade due to age. Itame-hada is well packed and the notare style midare hamon shines well. The nie is very tight. There is a barely legible engraving on the nakago, but since it is unclear, it is treated as unsigned on the registration certificate. The tsuba is very exquisitely crafted, but the fuchi-kashira and menuki are not consistent and were installed at a later date. The tsuka has recently been wrapped in black leather, but the wrapping technique is not very good. If you wish, we can offer rewrapping in pure silk for an additional fee of 10,000 JPY. If you would like this option, please note that in the comments section during checkout and we will send you a separate invoice. The main feature of the exterior of this sword is that sharkskin is wrapped around the entire scabbard, even the kurigata is covered in sharkskin. From the koiguchi to about 18 cm, the scabbard also has a carving called kizami, over which the sharkskin is wrapped, which is a highly sophisticated technique. These swords are ideal for iai and batto, and with their luxurious exteriors, they are recommended for all fans of Japanese swords.
