Katana - Mumei(No Signature) - NTHK Certificate(Ietsugu) - Shirasaya Koshirae - Suriage Nakago - Koto Era - Oita 10407

A magnificent katana with a large kissaki has arrived in very good condition. Although this piece is unsigned, the Society for Preservation of Japanese Swords recognized it as the work of Kashu Ietsugu and issued a certificate of authenticity in July 2020. Despite being made in the Koto period, this piece is in excellent condition and is very beautiful. The hada is typical of Koto period pieces, with mokume clearly visible on itame, and the yubashiri and chikei can be seen very clearly. Hamon is a very lively pattern of midare hamon mixed with nioideki gunome choji with konie. The curvature is small and the kissaki is large. Overall, this piece reminds one of the tachi swords of the Nanbokucho period of Ko-bizen.

Ietsugu was a swordsmith from Kaga (present-day Ishikawa Prefecture) who was active from the end of the Nanbokucho period to the end of the Muromachi period. The first Ietsugu was a swordsmith of the Onin period, and Kashu Ietsugu is a descendant of Masakage, a disciple of Etchu Norishige. He was also known as Kaga Aoe during the Eisho period, and his works are famous for their swords that cut well anyway.

This katana from the Koto period is in excellent condition and is being sold by TOZANDO at a very reasonable price. Don't miss this opportunity!
